Our Story
Hi, guys! My name is Andee. I am the owner of Men Saw Hey Shirt Co. I am a wife, mother, graphic artist, brownie lover, mountain obsessor and apparently a runner-or so I've been told. I have been an entrepreneur since the age of 8 when I started making things and selling them to my friends from my bedroom night stand. I love to serve and give in anyway that I can, it is when I am most happy. I believe in the power of LOVE and I feel that it can heal all things. I'm constantly thinking of new things to do. I love me a good project! This specific project came on a rainy day in September 2019. I was feeling little overwhelmed from an event I'd attended that weekend. I grabbed my running shoes and without any explanation told my husband, “I don’t care that it’s raining, I just need to run.” As I approached mile three I came to the highest point in my city. The mountains, which I’ve learned to draw strength from, were visible and the sun was just begining to crest. Two days earlier I attended an event where I listened to several speakers share their messages. At this event a mother powerfully shared a story about the death of her daughter. Her voice and message gave those attending the permission to move forward after crisis. It came at a very important time for me. Just weeks earlier, a friend of mine took her own life. Our daughters were both born with the same serious heart defect, Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (or half of a heart). Years ago, her daughter’s heart began to fail and she needed a heart transplant. After months and months of waiting for her new heart, she died in the hospital. Six years later, on her daughter’s birthday, my friend chose to return home to heaven to be with her. As I ran I thought, "Didn't ANYBODY ever share a message like that with her? What if nobody ever told her that it was okay to be happy and feel peace again? Why couldn't she have been at this event to hear these words?!" The wheels began to turn. I thought, "How can these messages become more available?! How can those who don't have the resources to attend these powerful events still get the messages they need?! How can these people who have such a great influence still have their voices and messages heard when they aren't on a stage speaking or being heard through a podcast?!"
I’ve always been passionate about shirt designs. If we are going on family vacation, we should have matching shirts. If we are holding an event, our shirts should be the same. A girls weekend? LET’S MATCH! It about so much more than a shirt. It is about connecting us and making us part of something. It’s about belonging. Every year I design and print thousands of shirts. I design them for sport teams, for non-profit organizations, for schools, for fundraising events… I love creating in any form I can. For years I’ve wanted to make something bigger out of this hobby, but it didn’t feel like it had much purpose. It didn’t contribute in the way I want to while on my journey here. As I starred at the mountains that morning and I thought about this bereaved mother's message and my friend who’d just been laid to rest, I wanted to create
The Men Saw Hey Project.
Men Saw Hey probably seems like a strange name. It is, I know. It’s actually a spanish word, mensaje, meaning message in English. Being on this earth is both a beautiful and hard thing. So many of us face challenges we never imagined we'd have to. I know I have! As humans we need to have messages and words of hope and light in a place that seems so dark at times. Our goal at Men Saw Hey Shirt Co. is to cover the earth with positive and uplifting messages. Messages about reaching our goals, about surviving our worst nightmares, about loving ourselves and being happy with who we are and messages about giving it all we have during our daily workouts. Our goals include connecting with others through our stories and creating a community where we can build each other up when it feels like so many things (and people) want to break us.
Each Men Saw Hey shirt has a fabric tag sewn on the bottom right side of the hem that reads "BE A LIGHT." It will make our shirts easily identifiable. We want people to know that when they see your red tag that you are intentionally wearing the shirt to share a message. That you WANT to be a light. You will become a billboard of things that are good. When you put your Men Saw Hey shirt on you are joining an army of others that are wanting to bring light to the world as well. This isn't just another shirt to wear, or even a motivational shirt. It's an intention.
I am incredibly grateful for those that have joined us on this journey to share light. I'm grateful for those that have seen the vision. I can't wait to meet more of you and join forces with you to spread even more light. My sincere hope is that together we can create of world covered in beautiful messages and light. With love, Andee <3
